Interactive Architecture

On 22 April a forum to explore the potential collaboration between the Schools of Architecture, Engineering, Neuroscience and Cinematic Arts in the field of Interactive Architecture was held in the USC School of Neuroscience. The intention behind the event was to reimagine architecture by situating it in the interface between human perception and (inter)action and environmental performance exploiting a broad interdisciplinary matrix that incorporates advances in architectural design, building engineering and immersive media, and which uses ubiquitous sensors and computing as well as developments in neuroscience, behavioural science and the social sciences. This groundbreaking event brought together participants including Antonio Damasio and Michael Arbib from Neuroscience, Behrokh Khoshnevis from Engineering, Bhaskar Krishnamachari from Computer Science, Anne Balsamo, Perry Hoberman and Scott Fisher from Interactive Media, and Qingyun Ma, Roland Snooks, Kris Mun (representing Francois Roche), David Gerber, Greg Otto and Neil Leach from Architecture. The event was funded by a Zumberge Research and Innovation Grant.
